About the Artist
Born London, 1968. Lives and works in Dublin, Republic of Ireland. Jason Minsky’s work unravels and re-configures the familiar. Playfully dislocating the functioning of places and events. Much of Minsky’s work shares a feeling of surreal pondering brought to life. With a strong interventionist strand, during the last few years he has made a range of work exploring the conventions, rules and rituals within and around sporting environments. Often employing humour as a strategy to unpick these rules creating dramatic, beguiling and often absurd interventions. The resulting artworks often have a refreshing, open-ended, limitless quality that transcends their origins. A multi-disciplinary approach to making work means that photography, video, neons, installation, sculpture, multiples and performance are all potential creative outcomes of this way of working. A graduate of the Royal College of Art (1997-99 MA RCA), his work has been collected and shown in Private and Public Collections around the world.
